At each event, Pope Joan chef and co-owner Matt Wilkinson will host one of his favourite producers and give guests the chance sample some of their delicious, seasonal produce and have an after-work tipple.
“It is so important to know where your food is coming from. What better way than to meet the actual person who grows the food that ends up on your plate?” says Matt Wilkinson.
The first Meet the Producers event will host avocado farmers, Tim and Katrina Myers from Barham Avocados, on Tuesday 6 August.
Barham Avocados produces four varieties of pesticide-free avos which ripen at different times over its 9-month season: the big, smooth-skinned Bacon followed by the pear-shaped Fuerte, familiar and rough-skinned Hass and its specialty creamy, emu-egg-shaped Reed.
As well as its regular 7 days-a-week daytime service, Pope Joan recently expanded and is now open for weeknight dinners and private function bookings on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Hams and Bacon, Pope Joan’s produce store, opened earlier this year offering takeaway coffee sandwiches, soups, pies and sausage rolls as well as products from the Pope’s favourite local producers and suppliers.
